Stan Sargeant

Stan was an outstanding all-rounder, right hand bat and right arm opening
bowler. He played for New City from 1959 to 1984.
Some of his highlights were 10 centuries, including:

• 104 runs against Churches
• 120 not out against Churches/Kiwi’s
• 104 against SS&A twice
• 118 not out against St Pat’s
• 134 against North Albury

Other highlights included:

• In the 1963/64 season he took 53 wickets and scored 307 runs
• In 1967/68 he took 70 wickets and scored 398 runs
• He took 6 for 6 and made 65 runs against East Albury
• 6 for 7 and 4 for 4 against Lavington
• 9 for 37 against North Albury
• 9 wickets in an innings twice, 8 wickets in an innings twice and 7 wickets in an innings on 4 occasions

In a representative match against Holbrook, he took 9 for 47 and scored 35
runs. In a Matheson Shield Final at the Albury Sports Ground, Stan took 8 for 8, including a hat trick with the final wicket being Bill McCaig who had made 134 previously in his last innings for Northern Riverina.

Stan won the Williamson Medal on 6 occasions, including the 1977 ABCA Player
of the Year Award which was a signed 1977 England and Australia Centenary Test Match Bat.
