Ray Newton

Ray was an exceptional right arm opening bowler and a capable batsman who played from 1963 to 1993 with Belvoir, Kiewa, City Colts and VRI.

As a batsman his highest scores were:

• 70 against Leneva.
• 77 against Uncle Bens.
• 88 against Wodonga Demons

As an opening bowler Ray took 8 wickets on 6 occasions, 7 wickets on
15 occasions, taking over 380 wickets in his career. His best figures
were:

• 7 for 41 against Bandiana.
• 8 for 19 against Wodonga Demons
• 8 for 31 against Tower
• 8 for 47 against Eskdale
• 8 for 82 against Tower

In his career he took 5 Hat Tricks, and he also took 6 wickets in 9 balls with no Hat Trick against Upper Lodden at Country Week. Ray captained the WDCA team at Country Week on 8 occasions. He played 45 North East Cup matches for Wodonga, culminating in a Premiership against Wangaratta who were the current Victorian Country
