Joe moved from Melbourne to Albury in 1949. He started playing senior cricket in 1953 and played for 29 years in the ABCA as a genuine all-rounder. He played 7 seasons with Newmarket, 1 season with Jindera and 21 seasons with East Albury, with 10 years as Captain. Joe represented ABCA at Country Week from 1976 through to 1982, and then as manager from 1984 to 1993.

After Joe’s retirement in the 1982-83 season, Joe took up umpiring until the end
of the 2005 season. He umpired 8 First Grade Grand Finals. Joe was also on the Board of many of the region’s cricket associations, including Murray Cricket Council for 12 years where he was President, the ABCA for 12 years where he was Vice President and North East Zone 8 where he was Vice President.
Joe has given an enormous amount of his time to cricket in the area, as recognised by his Life Memberships of 5 local cricket associations which are: East Albury Cricket Club, ABCA, Cricket Albury Wodonga, Murray Border Cricket Umpires and the Murray Cricket Council.
However, probably one of the most notable contributions to cricket
in the area is his book “150 Not Out”.
