Gary was an outstanding all-rounder, right arm off spinner and left-handed batsman who played 169 games in an 18-year career at Wodonga, retiring in 1983.

In his career he took 386 wickets at an average of 13.35 and scored 2,156 runs at an average of 17.25.

Gary’s best bowling efforts were:

  • 8 for 58 in a Semi Final
  • 4 for 36 and 4 for 28 in a Grand Final, and
  • He was the leading wicket taker at his Club for 3 years in succession.

Gary played in 5 first grade Premierships for Wodonga, captaining the 1972/73 side. He served as Club Secretary and Treasurer for more than 10 years, spending many hours compiling comprehensive statistics of the Club. After he retired at the end of the 1982/83 season Gary became an ABCA umpire and proceeded to umpire for 20 seasons. He was greatly respected by all, to the point that he officiated in 12 ABCA First Grade Grand Finals.

Gary was awarded Life Membership of the Association.
