Garry was born in 1956 and started playing senior cricket in 1970 as a wicket keeper at the tender age of 14. He played for Lavington, Gerogery Blues, North Albury, SS&A and New City.
He was a right arm opening bowler and one of the most astute Captains to ever take the field. In a career spanning nearly 30 years at First Grade level, he took 5 wickets or more on 28 occasions, finishing with over 500 First Grade wickets, but not many runs
Whilst playing for SS&A as Captain Coach from 1981 to 1998, Garry played in 11 Final Series, with 8 Grand Final appearances and 5 Premierships. Garry’s only notable batting performance was 67 against New City in a Semi Final.

Garry’s representative commitments spanned 20 years from 1975 to 1995. In that time he captained ABCA from 1983 through to 1995 on approximately 48 occasions.
He attended Country Week 19 times as a player and Captain, playing in 7 finals and winning 4 Premierships. The main highlight was 3 Premierships in a row, culminating in winning the Provincial Grade against Bendigo at the MCG in 1990. His record of 27 victories in a row as Captain of the O’Farrell Cup team has not been beaten.
